To Register: Registration is on a first come, first serve basis.  Registration is required prior to all classes (credit cards, cash, or check payable to American Red Cross). 

  • No spaces will be held without payment.

·         The Chapter House hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.

·         It is recommended that the book be read prior to the start of class. 

·         All students MUST bring their receipt for entrance to each class.

  • Course fees are non-refundable unless the course is cancelled or rescheduled by the Red Cross. If an individual registrant calls 3 or more business days prior to the first session of the class, the course fee will be applied once to enrollment in a future course within 30 days.
  • Courses will be cancelled if the registration of the class is less than 6 participants.
  • The practice sessions require strenuous activity. If you have a medical condition or disability, check with your physician to seek advice on your participation. For persons with chronic communicable diseases, a separate manikin will be provided if available.
  • Students who choose a class with two or more dates MUST attend all listed classes in order to get their certificate.
  • If a student registers by phone or mail, they have an option of coming in to pick up their book, it is their choice. Otherwise they will get the book on the first night of class.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM -First Aid/CPR/AED
Tuition: $175 including books
Train to become a certified Instructor for your American Red Cross Health & Safety services.  Includes FIT.  Please call Matt at 347-2577 to request an application or email mriley@midctredcross.orgPre-registration is required.

Requirements: Students must attend all dates within the session. Must be currently certified in: CPR/AED - Adult, First Aid, and Infant & Child CPR skills.  Successful completion of pre-course testing session. Successful completion of required practice teaching assignments. Demonstration of competency in required skills.

CPR/AED - Adult

Learn how to recognize and handle an emergency, when to call and how to interact with emergency medical services (EMS) system; how to recognize the signals of a heart attack and how to give care; how to care for a victim who is having a breathing emergency; how to give CPR to an adult. Train includes Automatic External Defibrillator.  MUST ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS.

Learn how to recognize and care for a victim of sudden illness and care for different types of wounds, including burns and bleeding; how to recognize and care for muscle, bone, and joint injuries, including injuries to the head, neck, and back.  NOTE: This updated course covers only First Aid Basics, it no longer includes Adult CPR.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer                       
Tuition: $70  (includes book and pocket mask)
Learn the role of the professional rescuer in the EMS system; the role of the professional rescuer in providing emergency care; how to recognize and respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults; recognize the risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease; and perform specialized skills and techniques used by professional rescuers.

CT CHILD CARE

Learn how to administer First Aid and Infant/Child CPR, prevent injuries, an recognize communicable diseases in children.  Meets state training requirements for family and center day care staff; also appropriate for parents, grandparents, and child care givers.  Upon successful completion, students will receive both Infant/Child and Connecticut Child Care certificates.

BABYSITTING         
Tuition: $50 (includes book)

The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course gives individuals, ages 11 to 15, the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training helps participants develop skills in five critical areas: leadership, safety and safety play, basic care, first aid and professionalism.  Must attend all 3 classes!

PET FIRST AID

Learn how to keep your cat or dog safe during an emergency until you can take your pet to a veterinarian.  This course reviews symptoms and care for common ailments and emergencies and explains how to maintain your pet's health and well-being.
