Each year more than one million Americans donate their time and talents, but we need your help to continue to deliver these vital programs and services.

Volunteer! Are you a student? a homemaker with kids in school? senior citizen? retiree? Do you have extra time on your hands? Are you in the corporate world and would like to donate a portion of your time to contribute to your community? The Red Cross needs you. We also welcome people who need to fulfill community service obligations.  Community service for the American Red Cross is a wonderful opportunity and very rewarding for both adults and students.

Disaster
Our local chapter is one piece of a nationwide disaster relief network that provides rapid response when disasters strike.  We especially need volunteers to help prepare for and respond to local disasters.  Training is required and it's FREEClick here for more information!

Blood Drives  
We need volunteers from the community to handle all the non-medical tasks involved in a blood drive:

 
  • Greeter/Registrar—greet and sign in the donors
  • Runner/Escort—escort donors to the refreshment table
  • Canteen Table—serve refreshments to the donors

  • Observer—chat with donors and care for their well-being

  • Chairperson—oversee other volunteers; helps organize breaks

Transportation

Drivers—We need people to transport the elderly or disabled to medical appointments, work, shopping, nutrition programs and more.  This vital service keeps our citizens connected to their communities and helps them maintain independent living.  We service over 820 individuals per year Monday through Friday. Choose your hours between 8:30 am - 4:00 PM.

We need drivers in both the Middletown area and New Britain area!

Family Shelter Program
  • Help to prepare Chapter documents and keep spreadsheets
  • Tutoring—Tutor students
  • Children's Program—provide arts, crafts, music, games, outdoor activities
  • Teach Life Skills—cooking, sewing, time management, money management, filing a tax return, parenting class, resume writing
  • Arts, Crafts, Music—teach arts, crafts, music, or exercise class
  • Fix Up a Shelter Apartment—paint a room, lawn & garden work, handyman services
  • Teen Center—Plan activities for teens, teach computer skills

Office / Clerical
Receptionist / Office Clerical duties—answer phones, direct walk-ins, prepare food bags, clerical duties, data input.  You tell us your skills, and we will find a job that best suits you!   Just a few hours a week or even a month, is more more helpful than you might think!!
