Make Sure Your Computer is Ready to Access the 2006 Lay Responder Instructor Update Online

As with any internet-based training, there may be compatibility issues. The information below can be used

to minimize any potential problems when you are ready to begin the online update.

Hardware

  • A computer with sufficient RAM memory and CPU speed to run one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP (Professional or Home Edition)

  • Windows 2000

  • Mac OS X

  • Network connection—A high-speed internet connection is highly advised. If used with a traditional dial-up modem connection, expect excessive download times to run the many Flash video and audio clips at that are in the update.

  • Monitor settings—800 x 600 pixels or greater

  • Audio speakers or headphones that are built in or plug into the computer

  • Sound Card that enables the online audio to be played

Compatible Software Configurations

  • Operating Systems—Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Mac OS X 10.4

  • Internet Browsers—Windows Internet Explorer 6 or Safari 2.02 (or more current versions) Note: The online update may work with other operating systems and software than what is listed, but those listed above have been tested with the online update.

  • Flash Plug-In—Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash 7.0 and above

  • Security Settings—medium or lower (on IE: Tools, Security Tab, Custom Level, Reset to: Medium)

  • Active ActiveX Controls—Must be allowed. Note: Before changing ActiveX settings, first try to ‘clear your cache’ in IE, then close and reopen your browser. To ‘clear your cache’ in IE, click on ‘Tools’, then ‘Internet Options…’, then click on ‘Delete Files…’ and click ‘OK’

To easily test your computer’s internet browser for functionality with the online instructor update,

click here. This browser check only tests Internet Explorer and Safari browser settings. Other

browsers are likely to fail the test, but may still run the course. The browser check should be

completed in the same physical location(s) using the same computer(s) you intend to use to complete

the online update.

Where to Get the Current Versions of These Programs

Note: Not all computer users have administrator rights to change settings, install or update software on

the computer they will be using. Those individuals will need to contact the computer’s administrator to

request the appropriate changes to be made. (i.e.: information technology department, user support, etc.)
